The Pocock Rowing Club exists to foster an inclusive rowing community, supporting fitness, recreation, skill development, and to provide competitive racing opportunities for adult rowers of all skill levels. 

 

With over 200 active members, The Pocock Rowing Club is a thriving home for rowing in Seattle.

Sculling Classes

Teams at PRC

PRC teams offer coaching sessions for team members to increase fitness, improve technique, and prepare for racing events throughout the year.

Master's Competitive Sweep Team

  • This team is for athletes seeking to compete at a high level in national and regional competitions. The year-round training program is designed to improve skill, fitness, and team success. 

  • Racing primarily focuses on sweep boats, but the team trains in both sculling and sweep in all boat classes.

  • Practice sessions are coach-led three days a week in the early mornings. Additional time is expected of athletes to train outside of coached practice sessions.

  • Team members typically have multi-year experience in rowing with previous competitive racing.

Master's Sculling Team

  • This team is for the sculling athlete to train and compete at national and regional competitions. The year-round training program is designed to improve skill, fitness, and team success. 

  • Racing and training are exclusively done in sculling boats across all boat classes. The club features a well-maintained fleet of shells for members to utilize.

  • Practice sessions occur multiple times weekly in the early mornings and are coach-led.

  • Team members typically have previous sculling experience, are proficient in small-boat navigation, and are interested in racing.

 

Mixed Master's Evening Team

  • This team is for the rower who may be new to racing and want to compete primarily at regional competitions.

  • Racing and training primarily focus on sweep boats in all categories.

  • Practice sessions occur multiple times weekly in the evenings and are coach-led.

  • Team members typically have some previous rowing experience or demonstrated proficiency in rowing as a student in skills-oriented classes.

Affiliated Clubs

Instruction on rowing, focused on skill development and race preparation, is offered in classes year-round. These classes are coach-led and organized, so class size is purposely limited to allow greater athlete/coach engagement.

Sculling Classes

  • Sculling Basics, formerly known as Sculling 1. 

    • The goal of Sculling Basics is to build confidence to move from an Aero 'tubby' single to racing shell. Each week of class focuses on a different aspect of the rowing stroke. Technique heavy class getting new athletes comfortable and confident. ​

  • Technical Sculling, formerly known as Sculling 2.

    • The goal of Technical Sculling is to further develop technical sculling skills and build fitness through increased volume (6k-8km/practices) with more individually tailored drills.​

  • Intensive Sculling, formerly known as Sculling 3.

    • The goal of Intensive Sculling is to refine technique through intensive fitness training. Practices have less drill focus with longer pieces (10+ km/practices).​

  • Classes are available to all members; members pay an additional fee to join a class.

  • Classes meet on average three times per week.

Three independent adult teams are housed at the Pocock Rowing Club, with programming focused on older adults. Members of these teams are full-time members of the PRC and self-manage their unique programs.

The Ancient Mariners Rowing Club

  • A nationally competitive team for men ages 50 to 80. The Mariners train year-round with professional coaches and row and race throughout the U.S. and internationally.

  • Racing and training primarily focus on sweep boats, but the team trains in both sculling and sweep in all boat classes.

  • Team members typically have multi-year experience in rowing with previous competitive racing.

The Montlake Rowing Club

  • A competitive team for women ages 40 to 80. Montlake trains year-round with professional coaches, rows, and races throughout the U.S. and internationally.

  • Montlake offers its members six hours of professionally coached instruction per week.

The Charley McIntyre Sculling Club

  • A rowing club for adults (generally over 40) who are not focused on competitive rowing. The CMSC rows year-round three times each week. There are seven members. It holds coaching sessions for its members several times each year to improve their rowing skills.

Rowing is a sport, an art, a meditation, a community

Over 12 classes, you will learn the basics of the stroke for sculling and sweep rowing styles, water safety, and terminology.

 

  • Small class sizes, experienced coaches, and club volunteers help build on-water skills quickly & safely. Our club is situated between Portage Bay and Lake Union, providing an exceptional backdrop to your learning experience.

 

  • There is no membership required to join a learn to row session.  

 

  • Four-week sessions begin monthly; Class fee $250

All sessions meet Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for four weeks.

  • March 12th-April 5th, 7:00 am-8:30 am

  • April 9th-May 3rd, 6:45 pm - 8:15pm

  • May 7th-May 31st, 6:30am-8:00am

  • June 18th-July 12th, 6:30am - 8:00 am.

  • August 6th-August 30th, 7:00am - 8:30 am.

  • September 3rd-September 27th, 6:30am-8:00 am.
