The History of Pocock Rowing Club

The George Pocock Memorial Rowing Center was built in 1994 by the George Pocock Rowing Foundation - a group of Seattle, Northwest, and National rowing enthusiasts - to honor the legacy of George Pocock by ensuring access to the formative, wonderful sport of rowing. The Center has been a youth and adult rowing hub for over twenty-nine years.

In 2021, In partnership with the George Pocock Rowing Foundation, a committee was formed to evaluate and address the unique needs of the adult athletes participating in rowing. In response to the committee recommendation, with the full support of the adult membership and George Pocock Rowing Foundation, The Pocock Rowing Club launched in April 2023. This new club is committed to the growth and support of rowing experiences for adults in the Seattle area.

The Pocock Rowing Club offers a broad portfolio of programs: Learn to row, rowing skill development, competitive teams, health, well-being, coaching education, adaptive rowing, and social events. The Pocock Rowing Club strives to be an inclusive and inviting organization supporting rowing as a pathway for longevity and a lifelong community.

With over 200 athletes in our active membership, the rowing club features a full-time executive director, a volunteer board of directors, experienced coaches, and a large contingent of member volunteers. The collaborative and resourceful team seeks to grow and innovate the club and be positive stewards for rowing, health, and belonging.
